view into the artists studio located on the 11th floor, very close to the Avendida Atlântica in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro. this is the place, where Miriam Loellmannn spents most of her time and absorbs the light and the sea air into her eye and mind and hand. at the end of 2013 she emigrated from Berlin to Rio de Janeiro with the mission to focus mainly on her artistic work and calling and express the inner beauty that is very vivid within her into her artworks.
earlier works and approaches
between 2012 and 2015, Miriam Loellmann concentrates on large-scale and size specific artworks for interiors. her main focus is on sensory perception, especially the sense of touch. she creates compositions of tiles she makes herself, looking for contrast and enabling a dialogue within the elements of the piece and with those who come in contact with them. this interplay of components leads to a very sensorial experience, rather than a statically designed surface.
Copacabana Floor, 2012 - 2013
2012 - 2013: realization of 'Copacabana Floor', Miriam Loellmann's first large-scale artwork influenced by Brazil and Japan. the materials are oak, pine, concrete, leather, steel and ceramic. she develops a unique and very elaborate technique to make the wooden tiles. In 2014 the artwork got permanently installed in a private residence in Maastricht, The Netherlands.
Ipanema Wall, 2014 - 2015
2014 - 2015: Miriam Loellmann is working on her second large-scale artwork inspired by the ipanema pattern. this is her first commission for a boutique hotel in Rio de Janeiro. She uses the materials steel and concrete.
room 15m2, 2014 - 2015
room 15m2 is small experimental space of 15 square metres under the artists previous shared studio in Santa Teresa, Rio de Janeiro, in which Miriam Loellmann tries out the floor and wall tiles and tactile surfaces she has been created so far. all surfaces are installed by herself. she uses this space to gain experiences and to express herself completely freely. mainly used materials: brazilian wood, concrete, steel, ceramic, glass.
